Ingredients
- 2 cups sugar
- 1/2 cup shortening
- 2 eggs
- Vanilla -- salt
- 1/2 cup sour milk (or buttermilk*)
- 2 1/2 cups flour
- 2 teaspoon baking soda
- 2 squares unsweetened chocolate (melted)
- 1 cup hot water
Directions
- Beat sugar, shortening, eggs
- Vanilla
- Alternately add sour milk and flour with baking soda
- Chocolate and hot water
- Bake in greased and floured 9x13 pan** at 350 for 35 to 40 minutes
- Leave cool for about 10 minutes before taking out of pan
- Cool completely before frosting
Notes
* I like buttermilk best
** or 2 round layer pans. If layering use wax paper or parchment paper on bottom.
